Education 2.0

21Classes. Simple blogging software for students and teachers.

Braineos Flash card quizzes to make your brain happy!. This will appeal to teachers and school librarians I suspect. Create flashcards, play, challenge friends. No need to sign up - you can just use your email to login, create games quickly. Unfortunately it's text based, so you can't use images, which is a real shame.

ClassChatter | Safe and Effective Web Tools For the Classroom ClassChatter offers free blogging and web tools for teachers at all levels of education. Our first goal is to provide a safe haven for teachers and students on the web. You will find a secure and private environment, free of any advertising directed at your students.

CreateDebate. Create a debate, add your views, seek suport, vote arguments up or down. I can see how this might work nicely in a classroom environment.

Creaza offers you an integrated, web-based toolbox for creative work, both at school and in your free time.  You use the toolbox along with various fully developed thematic universes:  historical periods, fairy-tales, fantasy worlds, and current challenges, such as climate/environment.

Free Visual English Dictionary This is a nice straightforward idea. Simply type in the word that interests you and the Visual English dictionary will create an image on the screen which links to a variety of different words. You can drag and move them around and you can also double-click to see further related words. This would work well in a school situation, particularly with students who are not confident using language.

Glogster - Poster Yourself. A glog is a digital poster that can contain images, video and sound. Creators can share them with other people via their social network or website and say what is special to them about their lives. Really interesting concept.

Kidblog Blogs for Teachers and Students. Kidblog.org is designed for elementary and middle school teachers who want to provide each student with their own, unique blog. Kidblog's simple, yet powerful tools allow students to publish posts and participate in discussions within a secure classroom blogging community. Teachers maintain complete control over student blogs. Set up your class with no student email addresses. Provide your students with an authentic, engaging, and interactive learning experience with Kidblog.

KidMango Cartoons and Kids Videos. From the site: KidMango is an exciting new source for the best in cartoons and kids videos, providing everything from an online syndication platform to a web site to a TV programming block that airs six days out of the week. The KidMango Library brings together popular shows from some of the world's best producers of animation and live action, and includes over a thousand videos covering everything from Einstein to aliens and vampires to Leonardo da Vinci.

From here, kids from preschool all the way up to 12 years old can excitedly explore this world of content based on their age range, ensuring that they're only met with KidMangos live-action and animated series specific to their age and taste. While KidMango intends to continually expand its world of content, it will always strive to make parents and caretakers comfortable with letting their children explore its site without the fear of their children encountering anything but kid-safe material.

LiveBinders Organize your resources in an online binder. It's basically a way to create a collection of materials on the web in a nice and convenient format. It reminded me very much of Squidoo, which is a fairly basic way of doing this, or Museum Box - they all seem to do pretty much the same thing, but just have different visual appeals.

Mindflash The easy way to get your training online.. Create a course from the presentations and videos that you already have. Free and priced programmes.

Museum Box This site provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box. What items, for example, would you put in a box to describe your life; the life of a Victorian Servant or Roman soldier; or to show that slavery was wrong and unnecessary? You can display anything from a text file to a movie. You can also view and comment on the museum boxes submitted by others.

Mnemograph: Web-based Timeline Software. Really can see the value of this in an educational setting. It allows you to create a timeline of an event, such as the history of a place, a time period such as Tudor England, World War One. Looks very simple and easy to do and the type of thing that could easily be used with children.

MyStudiyo: Create Great-Looking Interactive Quizzes. Looks simple and straightforward to use, bright and attractive. I think it's worth trying within a school/education environment.

National Geographic Kids Video. A small collection of good quality interesting and educational videos for children. Main drawback is that there are so very few of them. 8 in history for example. Disappointing.

NeoK12 Educational Videos and Games for Kids About Science, Math, Social Studies and English. This is a good alternative to YouTube for parents and teachers who want to show interesting and educational videos. Many different subject topics for K12 school children, though it does tend to have an American bias to it. All videos have been screened by teachers prior to inclusion on the site.

PurposeGames Test Your Knowledge With Trivia Games. Fun site. Sample games are geography, historical, astronomy, biology and so on. You can create your own as well.

Radiowaves School Video | School Radio | Free School Websites. Don't know why I hadn't seen this before, but I hadn't. Looks really interesting as well. Random name picker If you want to pick some names or other information at random, the ClassTools.net   fruit machine is great fun. Just pop in some names/keywords, 'pull' the handle and it'll do a fruit machine like whirr with applause when it stops. Great for choosing people to speak.

SchoolTube provides students and educators a safe, world class, and FREE media sharing website that is nationally endorsed by premier education associations. SchoolTube is the recognized leader for moderated, internet media sharing for teachers and students. All student created materials on SchoolTube must be approved by registered teachers, follow local school guidelines, and adhere to our high standards.

Scribblar - simple, effective, online collaboration. Online training and tutoring, revising artwork and images, brainstorming, sales, interviews, multi-user whiteboard, upload images, userlist, text chat, live audio, no downloads, no user limits.

Shidonni World. I played around with this quickly in guest mode. You can draw an animal, colour it in, decide if it walks or flies. Then draw food for it, create a background and then play with it. Very simple to use, designed for very young children. Very smooth. There's a commercial version as well. Do have an explore in depth to see if it's appropriate for your child.

Stixy: For Flexible Online Creation Collaboration and Sharing. Very similar to Wallwisher. Like an online bulletin board - whack up links, notes and so on, and share files with colleagues etc.

thisMoment is a place for saving and sharing the moments of your life. A moment is any experience that has significance to you. Moments can be created by you as an individual, or in collaboration with others.
